Winnie feels completely lost when her best friend Iggie moves away to Tokyo. With only two weeks of summer vacation left, Winnie is stuck on Grove Street with nothing to do. But everything changes when a new family, the Garbers, moves into Iggie's old house. The Garbers are the first Black family to ever live in Winnie's all-white neighborhood. Eager to make a good impression and secure new friends, Winnie appoints herself as a one-person welcoming committee. However, her enthusiastic efforts quickly backfire. Glenn, Herbie, and little Tina Garber do not want a neighbor who is just trying to prove a point. They are looking for a genuine friend. Winnie must learn what it truly means to stand up for what is right, confront the prejudices of the people around her, and build a real connection built on honesty and respect rather than just good intentions.
