Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Policy
Last Updated June 26, 2024
KRKB is designed for younger readers with parent, school, library, moderation, and privacy safeguards.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a US law designed to protect the privacy of children under the age of 13. KRKB treats child privacy as a core product requirement.
Collection of Personal Information
KRKB collects limited information needed to operate child accounts through supported parent-consent, parent-linked, or school/library-managed access paths. Public reader content should not include full names, home addresses, phone numbers, school names, email addresses, or private contact details.
KRKB may collect a parent or guardian email address to provide notice, support verification, connect Parent Portal access, or respond to privacy and deletion requests.
Use and Disclosure
Child account information is used to operate KRKB, support moderation and safety, provide account access, show linked parent or educator activity where supported, and maintain school or library program tools.
KRKB may use service providers and Learnastra LLC infrastructure to run the platform, support security, and provide operational services. KRKB does not sell student personal information or use it for behavioral advertising.
Verifiable Parental Consent via KBA
Where parent consent is required, KRKB may use Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) or another supported verification path before full account access is enabled. Verification helps confirm that an adult is approving the account.
Parental Rights & The Parent Portal
Parents and guardians with linked access can use Parent Portal tools to review supported account activity and controls.
- Activity Review: Review supported reader activity connected to the linked account.
- Account Controls: Manage supported account settings and access tools.
- Deletion Requests: Request deletion of a linked child account where supported.
For additional privacy or deletion requests, contact contact@krkb.org. KRKB uses moderation and safety checks to help flag private information before publication, but parents, teachers, librarians, and readers should also avoid posting private details.
Data Security
KRKB uses administrative, technical, and operational safeguards designed to protect account information and reduce unauthorized access, misuse, and accidental disclosure.
Changes to this COPPA Policy
KRKB may update this policy from time to time. We will notify parents of material changes by posting a notice on KRKB or by sending an email where appropriate.
