A fierce winter storm has brought travel to a grinding halt in the rugged Cascade Mountains. At the Wellington train depot, passengers sit stranded on two snowbound trains, completely blocked by massive snow slides on both sides of the tracks. The snow is piling up into twenty-foot drifts, falling much faster than the crews can clear it. As the days stretch on, the freezing travelers have no choice but to wait and hope for a break in the weather. Just after midnight, a sudden lightning strike hits the mountain above. The strike triggers a massive, ten-foot-high wave of solid snow that barrels down the steep slopes directly toward the trapped trains.
