Catrina is not happy about leaving her friends and her sunny home behind, but she knows she does not have a choice. Her family is moving to the gloomy, foggy coast of Northern California for the sake of her little sister, Maya, who has cystic fibrosis. The cool, salty ocean air is supposed to help Maya breathe easier, so Catrina tries to make the best of their new town of Bahia de la Luna. But as the sisters begin to explore their new neighborhood, a friendly neighbor lets them in on a chilling local secret: their new town is famous for its ghosts. Maya is absolutely thrilled and becomes determined to meet a real spirit, hoping to ask them what happens after you die. Catrina, on the other hand, is terrified and wants nothing to do with the supernatural.
