Waylon Russell Brewer is a fat, openly gay teen stuck in the small, conservative town of Clover City, Texas. His ultimate survival plan is simple: keep his head down, graduate, and move to Austin with his twin sister, Clementine. Once there, he can finally go Full Waylon and live his fabulous, unapologetic truth. But when Clementine suddenly changes their master plan right after Waylon gets dumped, he decides to throw caution to the wind. He creates a fierce audition tape for his favorite TV drag show, never expecting the video to accidentally leak to the entire school. As a cruel joke, Waylon is nominated for prom queen. Meanwhile, his sister girlfriend receives a joke nomination for prom king. Instead of hiding, Waylon decides to run for the crown and leave high school with a massive, glittery bang. Along the way, he discovers that campaigning takes serious work especially when he is forced to spend time with the infuriatingly cute prom king nominee, Tucker Watson.
