A poor fisherman lives a quiet, meager life with his wife in a small, miserable shack by the sea. One day, his luck completely changes when he catches a massive, talking flounder. The magical fish reveals that it is actually an enchanted prince and begs for its life. The kindhearted fisherman immediately releases it back into the crashing waves. When he returns home and tells his wife about the incredible encounter, she is furious that he did not ask the magical creature for a reward. She orders him to go back to the sea and demand a nice cottage to replace their filthy shack. The fish grants the wish instantly. But the wife's satisfaction does not last. Driven by an endless, consuming greed, she forces her husband to return to the sea again and again, demanding a massive castle, the title of king, and eventually the power of the emperor. With every selfish demand, the ocean grows darker, wilder, and more terrifying.
