When Lenny's father goes away to fight in the Second World War, he gives his young son a very special brass badge. Engraved on it are two majestic animals: a lion to bring bravery and a unicorn to provide courage. Soon after his father leaves, Lenny is evacuated from his familiar home in London to escape the terrifying nightly bombings of the Blitz. Sent far away from his mother to live in a large, strange mansion in the English countryside, Lenny feels deeply homesick and incredibly alone.
