When Jyoti travels halfway around the world to visit her grandmother in India, everything feels overwhelmingly different from her home in America. Initially, she feels lonely and terribly out of place. But soon, despite speaking different languages, Jyoti and Sita Pati find beautiful ways to understand each other. They build a special bond by sharing books, creating colorful sand designs, shopping at the busy market, and sipping warm saffron milk. When it is finally time to leave, Jyoti is heartbroken. However, she is comforted by a special Tamil tradition: instead of saying goodbye, people say, I'll go and come back. True to those words, the pair is reunited the very next summer when Pati visits America. Now, it is Jyoti's turn to help her grandmother feel completely welcome in a brand-new place, creating unforgettable memories that bridge the distance between their two worlds.
