Mrs. Doreen Randolph-Potts is an ample, roundy fish with a family visit to make and not quite enough sense to know when she is in danger. On her way to see a cousin with 157 new babies, Doreen spots what she thinks is a tasty dragonfly. Readers, however, will quickly notice what Doreen does not: that tempting snack is bait. The joke grows as Doreen’s trip becomes much more complicated than she realizes. Poor Doreen is a clever fish tale built on dramatic irony, giving kids the fun of knowing more than the main character while still cheering for her roundabout adventure.
