Four-year-old twins Jimmy and Janet never seem to agree on anything. Janet likes to pretend and play make-believe, but Jimmy only likes things that are completely real. When Jimmy finds a real shovel, he decides to dig a very real hole in the backyard. He digs and digs until the hole is so big that no one knows what to do with it. Janet wants to use it for a pretend house, but Jimmy insists it must be used for something real. The twins cannot stop arguing over the giant pit in their yard. Just when the squabble reaches its peak, their father steps in with a clever solution that perfectly satisfies both Jimmy's need for reality and Janet's love of imagination. This warm and gentle story wonderfully captures the everyday squabbles of siblings and the smart compromises that bring families together.
